Split gram/Chana Dal and Bottle Gourd/Lauki dish

 Ingredients

(a)    One medium Bottle Gourd (peeled & chopped)

(b)    Half cup Chana Dal (soaked for 30–60 minutes)

(c)    One onion (finely chopped)

(d)    Two tomatoes (chopped)

(e)    Two garlic cloves (optional)

(f)    One tsp cumin seeds

(g)    Half tsp turmeric powder

(h)    One tsp coriander powder

(i)     Salt to taste

(j)     Two tbsp oil or ghee

(k)    Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)

(l)     Two green chilies (optional)

 Method

  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker.
  2. Add cumin seeds; let them splutter.
  3. Add onion, garlic, and green chilies, sauté until golden.
  4. Add tomatoes and cook until soft.
  5. Mix in turmeric, coriander powder, and salt.
  6. Add soaked chana dal and sauté for three minutes.
  7. Add chopped bottle gourd and mix well.
  8. Add one cup of water.
  9. Cover and cook for three whistles or till Dal softens.
  10. Garnish with fresh coriander.
