What is limbic system in our body and its functions?

The limbic system is a group of interconnected structures deep inside the brain that help control your emotions, memory, motivation, behaviour, and survival instincts. Limbic system sometimes called the “emotional brain. “It lies between the higher thinking brain (cerebral cortex) and the primitive brainstem. Main Parts of the Limbic System Amygdala Hippocampus Hypothalamus Thalamus Cingulate gyrus Functions of the Limbic System 1. Controls Emotions (a)      Fear (b)      Anger (c)      Pleasure (d)      Love (e)      Anxiety   The amygdala plays a key role in fear and emotional reactions. Example: If you see a snake, your limbic system activates fear before you even think.   Memory Formation    (a)      Converts short-term memory into long-term memory. (b)      Helps in learning. ...

Habits forming.

Forming habits sounds simple, but in real life, it is often difficult. People fail at forming habits not due to a lack of willpower, but because they focus on outcomes rather than systems, start too big, or operate with a self-image that conflicts with the new behaviour. There are other reasons include neglecting to change their environment, relying on fleeting motivation, and quitting when results are not immediately visible Here are the main difficulties in habit formation and why they happen: 1. Lack of Clear Trigger If a habit does not have a fixed cue, the brain forgets it. Example: “I will exercise daily” (no trigger). “After morning tea, I will walk 5 minutes” (clear trigger). Your brain works better with signals. 2. Starting Too Big. One of the biggest mistakes is tasking big goals at the starting. Examples given below: (a)     45 minutes exercise daily. (b)     10,000 steps from day one. (c)     Writing 1,000 words dai...

Rest and Digest Mode of Body.

Rest and digest are the body’s relaxation and recovery system  controlled by the parasympathetic nervous system, which works opposite to fight-or-flight mode. While fight-or-flight prepares you to survive danger, rest-and-digest helps you heal, repair, and restore energy.   How It Works Cranial nerves a set of twelve paired nerves that stem from brain. Cranial nerves have a wide variety of functions, which includes helping you see, taste, smell, hear, and feel sensations. These nerves also help you make facial expressions, blink your eyes, and move your tongue. Vagus nerve is also one of these twelve paired nerves which is longest nerve in the autonomic nervous system, running from the brainstem down to the abdomen, essential for involuntary "rest and digest" functions. It regulates heart rate, digestion, breathing, and immune responses while calming the body after stress.     When activated: (a)     Heart rate slows. (b)     B...
